A Family Business Built on Trust
For more than 40 years, the Colwell name has stood for honesty, service, and strong relationships throughout Iowa. While our story in Hudson officially began in 1984 when Bill Colwell Jr. purchased the local Ford dealership, the Colwell family's experience in the automotive industry goes back even further. Bill Colwell Sr. entered the business in the 1960s before opening Bill Colwell's Auto Mart alongside his son in Waterloo in 1975.
Since acquiring the Hudson dealership, the Colwell family has focused on treating every customer with respect while creating a dealership people enjoy visiting. That commitment has helped the business grow while remaining family-owned through every chapter.
Today, Blake Colwell proudly continues that tradition. After joining the family business in 2007, he expanded the Colwell name in 2025 by acquiring the Mason City Ford Lincoln and Mason City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealerships, creating Colwell Motors of Mason City. Although we've grown, our values remain exactly the same.
